Finally some decent airmiles bonus offers

Since my last post Airmiles has had some great offers that we have taken advantage of.

1. Airmiles.ca 10x the points event.

We had been waiting for this for a long time and started to wonder if it would ever be offered again. We took advantage of this deal and ordered an iMac and an iPad. We haven't tallied up the total airmiles that we will be receiving from this purchase because the bonus points are not posted yet and it can take up to 60 days before they appear.

2. Accomodations booked through airmiles site

We went to Chicago and chose to stay at Best Western. By booking through airmiles.ca we receive 1 airmile for every 20 dollars spent. Best Western also offers 20 base miles for each stay, but on top of that, we took advantage of Best Western's current Fall offer and stayed at two different 'types' of Best Western's and hence earned triple the reward miles for our second stay. Again we have not been able to count the actual bonus miles earned yet because the bonus Airmiles will not be posted until 2-3 weeks after the promotion ends on November 20, 2011.

3. Sobeys Gift Cards

This weekend Sobeys is offering 50 bonus Airmiles with the purchase of a $100 Sobeys gift card. We haven't taken of this offer yet but we will be doing so before the weekend is over.

My Airmiles count on my iPad is now showing 8707.

Has it really been a year?

I decided to check on the blog today and I am shocked to see it is now over a year since I last posted. There are many reasons for that:

1. Frustration

I used to enjoy grocery and pharmacy shopping (ie. Sobeys and Lawtons) but with the airmile collection obsession I developed, that all quickly changed. I found more-frequent-than-not errors where the bonus points advertised and the bonus miles credited were not jiving. With each error I had to make a trip to customer service to have it corrected. Not fun times

2. Diminishing bonus offers

When I first started recognizing how fast you could accumulate bonus airmiles, I was collecting on average about 500-600 airmiles a month. Over the last two months I have averaged about 250 a month. Why has airmiles decreased their bonus mile offerings and increased the number of miles it takes to obtain a 'free' trip?

3. My lack of stick-to-it-tive-ness.

I tend to get bored very easily. Hence the reason for this three point sermon. I do hope to begin blogging at least bi-weekly now. Not sure that my posts will all be about airmiles though.

BTW...airmiles toolbar (which is another point of frustration) now shows 8322.
